ANi – First Look of a Dystopian Philippines in 2050

ANi [The Harvest] which tells the story of an orphaned boy and his malfunctioning robot who are in search of legendary magic beans that will help save his grandfather and their dying crops. Kim Zuñiga and Sandro del Rosario makes their debut to Cinemalaya this August with the release of the science fiction film.

In an upcoming episode with our podcast venture, Third World Cinema Club, we sat down with the two together with co-writer and producer Toni Zuñiga, Zyren dela Cruz as Mithi, the young boy; and Miguel Valdez as ANi the Robot. The film is one of the competing feature films in this year’s Cinemalaya Film Festival, which is also the first full-length science fiction film to be included in the festival’s annual selection.

Produced by Black Sheep Productions and Wanderstruck films, ANi [the Harvest] could offer more potential works from the country’s growing interest in the genre. The film won the Best Film Pitch held last year by the Director’s Guild of the Philippines Inc (DGPI) which opened doors for the filmmakers to have their material developed under different film circuits in the country and abroad.
