Ginataang Manok – cooked in coconut milk along with squash and malunggay leaves
Ginataang Manok with kalabasa. This healthy dish is quick and easy to make. The recipe resulted in a rich, creamy, and tasty chicken and vegetable dish that my family loved. The kids were able to finish their meal, and even had extra servings of kalabasa. Some of you might be asking if the combination of chicken and kalabasa is even possible. The first step in cooking ginataang manok with kalabasa is to pan-fry the chicken pieces. Simply heat oil in a pot and pan-fry each side for 2 minutes.
The chicken will be added back soon. The next step is sautéing onion and garlic. Make sure that the onion softens completely while the garlic should be browned a bit. Add the chicken back to the pot and stir. Prepare the gata mixture buy combining Knorr Ginataang gulay Recipe Mix with 1 1/2 cups water. Mix well until the powder is diluted. Pour into the pot and cook in medium heat for around 25 minutes. You may cook it longer if desired. Make sure to add water if the liquid starts to dry-up quickly. I like to use the recipe mix because it is already pre-mixed with seasonings. This means that I don’t need to add salt and pepper later. This makes it perfect for beginners.
Add kalabasa and cook it for around 8 minutes. You may also cook it for up to 12 minutes if you want it soft. The malunggay leaves goes in last. Give it around 2 minutes to cook. You have now completed cooking the dish.
